Melinda's Story

I spent most of my early career learning the ins and outs of the automotive industry. I learned how to sell, how to connect with people, and how to get results in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. But what I was really looking for, what I hoped to find, was mentorship. I wanted to be taught, led, and guided. I wanted someone to take the time to help me grow. But what I found instead was a culture of pressure over coaching, demands over development, and a belief that if you couldn’t figure it out fast enough, you didn’t belong. That experience shaped me, but it didn’t harden me. It taught me what was missing. And more importantly, it revealed what I now feel deeply called to build. After spending over a decade in the automotive industry, I’ve realized the greatest gap in most organizations isn’t sales skill or product knowledge, it’s true leadership. We’ve spent too long prioritizing metrics over people. And while performance matters, it’s people who create it. That’s why today, I coach differently. I lead with empathy. I lead with experience. And I lead with accountability. I help salespeople and leaders develop not just their skills, but their confidence, clarity, and behavioral insight to truly succeed. I founded DrivingForward Performance Coaching to be the guide I once needed, and to help others grow into the leaders and professionals they were always capable of becoming.
